Today I want to philosophize about a topic that is not so easy and for some perhaps threatening and frightening. Does chance exist or does everything fall into one's lap? Asian philosophies speak of karma, the cause-and-effect principle, that is, every effect has a cause. If one assumes that nothing is a coincidence, then the question is whether everything is predetermined. Certainly not, because then there would be no diversity of animals, plants and existences in the universe. But if the cause-and-effect system applies and every effect we see has a cause, then there should at least be a real coincidence in the cause from time to time, if not everything is deterministic, that is, predetermined. Now the question arises: are accidents, suffering, illnesses and death effects of faulty causes, i.e. do mistakes result in punishments such as accidents, suffering and illnesses, and death?
